NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!
nexus
Hi there!
My name is Soren Laulainen and I like to make atmospheric electronic music that tells a story!
Lately I’ve been working on a new album! I’ve been collaborating with friends and the LOVE of my life, creating synthetic voices with Japanese VOCALOIDs, writing lyrics, and recording my own vocals for the first time ever!
My new single, nexus, is a slow-burn track that layers high-tempo trap-style beats on top of chill, relaxing waves of synth! ?
Listen to it on Bandcamp or Spotify!
about me
I’m a self-taught composer and music producer based in Seattle, WA. I’ve enjoyed writing scores for short films, producing sound and music for game jams, and making the retro synth soundtrack for DevQuest — a documentary series about indie game developers.
I fell in love with music at the age of three, during a live concert of Haydn’s Symphony No. 94 (Surprise). I composed my first film score in high school, after spending my allowance on an orchestral strings sample library. I graduated as valedictorian in 2007, with a B.A. in Digital Motion Picture from Cogswell Polytechnical College, where I also studied world music and theory.
As a lover of ambient music, I strive to create palpable atmosphere and mood. But I also want my work to be elevated above simple drone music. If you’ve played my favorite video games — Myst, Riven, The Dig and LIMBO — the music is doing double-duty as both an emotional texture and as a theme/motif for a person, place or idea. I approach scoring in the same way, so that the music doesn’t just work for a scene or a level – it also helps convey additional meaning in the greater context of the story.
